Desperate to break free…

I've spent my entire life under my father’s thumb, but now I'm finally free to make my own choices. When my roommate dragged me to my first college party, I met Finn Coram and my life turned inside out. He knows how to break the rules and is everything I never knew I wanted. A Marine by day and surfer by night, he pushes me away even as our attraction brings us closer. Now I am finally free to do whatever I want. I know what I want. I choose Finn.

Trying to play by the rules...

I always follow orders. My job, my life, depends on it. I thought this job would be easy, all the rules were made crystal clear, but when I met Carrie Wallington, everything got muddy. She's a rule I know I shouldn't break, but damn if I don’t inch closer to the breaking point each time I see her. I’m ready to step out of line. And even worse? I’m living a lie. They say the truth will set you free, but in my case…

The truth will cost me everything.

Oh my god was this book great! I started reading it only intending to read, say like, a chapter, but then I was a quarter of the way…then halfway…then I was done. Just like that. It was addicting, sexy and totally unique.

Carrie was a total sweetheart. Growing up in a very privileged family, she is not one of thoseeee annoying girls who I’d like to smack. She is insanely nice to everyone and is just one of those good girls who is truly, genuinely sweet. She is really shy but not too naïve. Just a good balance of everything. She’s also incredibly strong, which is something I definitely did not expect. She is the type of person to tell someone to eff off and I loved that.

HOLY HELL! Finn. The perfect perfection of the perfectest guy. I am a total sucker for Marines. Especially the bad boy type. And his name? If I thought I loved it before, he made me love it even more. He’s also a surfer (helloooo ripped abs) and a sweetie at heart. He’s always thoughtful in regards to Carrie, even in their peculiar situation. Jen, can I pretty please have my own Finn?

The plot was perfect. Equal amount of angst, sexy times, and soul mate conversations made it very enjoyable and unputdownable ß I love this word. :) Their banter was flawless. Jen is the holy queen of dual POV. It was completely needed in this book and I LOVED getting Finn’s POV especially. And hot damn! The sexy scenes were super duper sexy. Oh my goddddd I needed some cold water.

After the very confusing cliffhanger, I am not sure what to expect from the novella that occurs after this book. So uhhhh can I have it? Can I have it? Can I have it?

Favorite Swoon-worthy Quote: My head spun as his lips worked mine, making everything but him disappear from my mind. The way he kissed me. How amazing his hands felt on my body. The feel of the soft bed underneath my back, contrasting with his hard body on top of mine. Pressing me down and making me want more.

Pressing the boundaries of both the psyche and the heart, Sam and Holden embark on a dangerous journey that will test the limits of love.

Sam Wintry’s life used to be almost perfect. She was engaged to her childhood best friend and high school sweetheart, Tyler Marks, planning an amazing cross-country honeymoon during her college break. But after a hit-and-run leaves her in ruin, she begins seeing Tyler’s fractured, ghostly presence, and her family believes she’s losing her mind. Not until she completes their journey, stopping along the way to scatter Tyler's remains, will Tyler be able cross over. Only...is Sam ready for him to leave her?

When the black sheep of the Marks' family, Holden Marks, returns to check on Tyler's case, Sam convinces him to give her his brother's ashes. Despite their shaky history, she needs him...plus, he owes it to Sam and his brother. What she doesn’t count on is Holden’s relentlessness to go on the trip.

On the road, Holden realizes just how unhinged Sam has become. Dealing with her psychosis forces him to confront his dark past, making it harder to keep secrets hidden that should remain buried. Especially from Sam, the only woman he’s ever loved. And as Sam starts to unravel the truth, she begins to question if the brother she's unwillingly falling for again is in an even darker place than her.       GoodreadsAmazonB&NKoboiTunes
This book was received from YA Bound in exchange for an honest review.

As soon as I read the synopsis, I was very intrigued. Yeah, I have read books about people losing their spouses, but I was so interested in the losing the mind aspect of it. Yes, very intrigued…

Poor, poor, poor Sam. She was grieving not just on the inside but very blatantly on the outside as well. She is lost and the only time she is slightly okay is when she is seeing her dead fiancés ghost. A bit crazy, right? But it really didn’t feel so crazy when I was in her head. I felt her pain but I also felt her strength. It takes someone who has innate strength to be able to bounce back from what she went through. Pretty inspiring.

Holden is Sam’s dead fiancés brother. Yeah, you heard me right. But he is totally amazing in how he helps Sam with her journey. Holden is sexy, artistic and a bad-ass who has a heart of gold. During the flashbacks, I saw his indecision and his guilt over what had happened 5 years ago, and I am so glad he redeemed himself. He’s a total sweetheart in present time. And he has a lip ring. I think those are so hot. :)

Tyler, Sam’s dead fiancé, was an integral part of the story, and we got flashbacks where we saw his character and how Sam perceived him. He clearly loved Sam so much and it was so sweet how he was planning this huge cross-country honeymoon with her. I wept for his many different situations and the secrets that plagued his life.

This book is great. It made me feel all the feels at once, which I think only a great book can. The writing was spot on and the flashbacks added so much depth to the story that I felt was really needed. And seriously guys. This book had the steamiest of all steamiest scenes that I have read it a new adult book. I needed a fan and a glass of cold water for a good bit of the book. And that dancing scene? *fans self*

If you’re looking for a NA contemporary with a dark twist, look no further. It’s innovative, sexy, and sweet and just oh-so amazing!

Favorite Swoon-worthy Quote: Shock freezes me in place. My brain empties. And then I grasp Sam’s neck and her back, pulling her body closer to mine before I realize what I’d doing. Her tongue darts into my mouth, and every nerve in my body combusts. My hand is in her wet hair, my fingers entwining, gripping, angling her head back as I meet her hungry kiss with the raw and unstoppable need setting my body on fire.
