Book Blitz: Unraveled by Jen Frederick + Giveaway!

Twenty-five-year-old Sgt. Gray Phillips is at a crossroads in his life: stay in the Marine Corps or get out and learn to be a civilian? He’s got forty-five days of leave to make up his mind but the people in his life aren’t making the decision any easier. His dad wants him to get out; his grandfather wants him to stay in. And his growing feelings for Sam Anderson are wreaking havoc with his heart…and his mind. He believes relationships get ruined when a Marine goes on deployment. So now he’s got an even harder decision to make: take a chance on Sam or leave love behind and give his all to the Marines.

Twenty-two year old Samantha Anderson lost her husband to an IED in Afghanistan just two months after their vows. Two years later, Sam is full of regrets—that she didn’t move with her husband to Alaska; that she allowed her friends to drift away; that she hasn’t taken many chances in life. Now, she’s met Gray and taking a risk on this Marine could be her one opportunity to feel alive and in love again. But how can she risk her heart on another military man who could share the same tragic fate as her husband?

Excerpt:

THIS WAS ONLY TEMPORARY, I reminded myself, as Samantha so sweetly kissed me back. I'm only here for a short time I reminded myself but as I felt her tongue stroke the side of my tongue, as she nipped her teeth against my lip, I wanted to just drown in the sensation. Her scent filled my head and the air around us shrank until all I knew was her small body sitting so close to mine. I moved my hand from her shoulder to cup her neck and angled her face for deeper penetration. I licked every inch inside of her mouth until the taste of her was all that I knew on my tongue.

And all that time I stared in to her green eyes and not once did she look like she was anywhere but right here with me. I saw my reflection there. Her heartbeat was made wild by my kisses.

And temporary was the farthest thing from my mind.

Blog Tour: Full Measures by Rebecca Yarros - Review, Guest Post + Giveaway!

Three knocks can change everything…

"She knew. That’s why Mom hadn’t opened the door. She knew he was dead."

Twenty years as an army brat and Ember Howard knew, too. The soldiers at the door meant her dad was never coming home. What she didn’t know was how she would find the strength to singlehandedly care for her crumbling family when her mom falls apart.

Then Josh Walker enters her life. Hockey star, her new next-door neighbor, and not to mention the most delicious hands that insist on saving her over and over again. He has a way of erasing the pain with a single look, a single touch. As much as she wants to turn off her feelings and endure the heartache on her own, she can’t deny their intense attraction.

Until Josh’s secret shatters their world. And Ember must decide if he’s worth the risk that comes with loving a man who could strip her bare.
This book was received from Inkslinger PR in exchange for an honest review.

Basically if a book mentions a sexy hockey player, I’m sold. Completely sold. It’s my weakness!

December Howard is a really strong woman. She basically has two gigantic blow dealt to her in such a short amount of time that I couldn’t blame her insecurities and her indecisiveness. She had a hard time trusting anyone, even when that person would do absolutely anything for her, she just didn’t know it. But I loved when she finally wised up and make the best decision she could ever make.

Josh Walker is a sexy hockey god. He used to be a player in high school but when Ember meets up with him five years later, he is a changed man. He is really sweet when Ember is dealing with the horrible events in her life, and he is the person who helps her pick up the pieces. He is hiding a secret from her, but he just doesn’t really want to lose her. Goodness I loved him!

Ember’s mother, although she went through a horrific episode, was catatonic for half of the book. She needed to be there for her children and I’m glad that she realized that and stepped up. Sam was a great best friend and I’d love to see a book about Jagger, Josh’s roommate.

The plot, a parent who dies, is something I’ve read about in new adult before. But for me, this book had a different spin on it for me. I really enjoyed it. The romance was cute. I kind of, at times, felt that it moved a smidgen too fast, given what happened to Ember. I am glad at time direction it took though. Very adorable!

As I said before, I’d love to see a companion novel about Jagger. Pretty please, Rebecca?

Favorite Swoon-worthy Quote: He leisurely took my face in his hands, brushing back the stray strands of auburn hair. He examined every curve and line of my face, his eyes skimming over my cheekbones, pausing at my eyes, lingering on my mouth. Then he took my mouth the way I needed him to. His lips moved in delicious ways that had me instantly ready for him. He slanted my head to gain better access, and all I could do was concentrate on not collapsing. He kept his hands on my face, but I craved them on every inch of my skin.

Guest Post:

Hi there!

I’m Rebecca Yarros, and thank you for letting me post with you today! I have this little baby named Full Measures, and it’s about to release into the world on 2.10.14. You can’t see me, but I totally did a little happy dance over here.

A question I get a lot, is what made me decide to write Full Measures.

I’m a military wife, and have been for twelve years, but I’m also an army brat of dual-military parents. I’ve always been accustomed to moving, long hours, and the threat of losing one, or both of my parents to war.  Part of me wondered, if I had lost my father during the most formative years of my womanhood, when I was really learning who I was, and what I had to give to this world, what would it have done to me? How would it have changed me?  What risks would I have been willing to take for love if I already knew how badly it could end?

I knew I needed a “different” heroine.  I needed a young woman strong enough to hold her family together, tough enough to stand her ground, tender enough to fall in love, and human enough to lose her mind a couple times without looking coo-coo for cocoa puffs.  Ember turned out to be that and more.  She’s realistic to a fault, determined to hold it all together even when that very act is breaking her apart.

Josh came about in reaction to Ember.  Whatever she needed, he was willing to give, and he evolved from there, darn-near jumping off the page at me.  He’s got demons of his own, one of which might be the deal-breaker for Ember. Don’t tell my husband, but I’m totally in love with Josh. Married women can have book boyfriends, right?

I started Full Measures a couple months before my husband’s fourth deployment.  When he left for Afghanistan, I didn’t have it in me to write about a service member’s death, it was too raw, and too real a possibility for us.  So I tucked it away, and once I had that first, horrid month of deployment under my belt, I picked it back up and finished it during my kids’ nap times and bed times.  I hope I did military life some justice here, and highlighted the strength that can rise when there’s nothing left to give, when the only question left is: what’s your full measure?  What would you be willing to give for the one person you loved? Where is your line in the sand, and what do you do when that person crosses it?

I really hope you fall in love with Ember and Josh as much as I did.

Thank you for giving me this time on your blog!  I tried not to hijack it for too long.  ;)

Muuuwah! (Insert Cyber-kiss here)

About the Author:

Rebecca Yarros is a hopeless romantic and lover of all things chocolate, coffee, and Paleo. In addition to being a mom, military wife, and blogger, she can never choose between Young Adult and New Adult fiction, so she writes both. She's a graduate of Troy University, where she studied European history and English, but still holds out hope for an acceptance letter to Hogwarts. Her blog, The Only Girl Among Boys, has been voted the Top Military Mom Blog the last two years, and celebrates the complex issues surrounding the military life she adores.
When she's not writing, she's tying on hockey skates for her kids, or sneaking in some guitar time. She is madly in love with her army-aviator husband of eleven years, and they're currently stationed in Upstate NY with their gaggle of rambunctious kiddos and snoring English Bulldog, but she would always rather be home in Colorado.
