Review: The Mime Order by Samantha Shannon

Paige Mahoney has escaped the brutal prison camp of Sheol I, but her problems have only just begun: many of the survivors are missing and she is the most wanted person in London...

As Scion turns its all-seeing eye on the dreamwalker, the mime-lords and mime-queens of the city's gangs are invited to a rare meeting of the Unnatural Assembly. Jaxon Hall and his Seven Seals prepare to take centre stage, but there are bitter fault lines running through the clairvoyant community and dark secrets around every corner. Then the Rephaim begin crawling out from the shadows. But where is Warden? Paige must keep moving, from Seven Dials to Grub Street to the secret catacombs of Camden, until the fate of the underworld can be decided.

WHY?!?! That ending was brutalll, but it was something that I should’ve seen coming. Oh my god that was nuts!

Paige is just as kick-ass as ever. She is a fan of action, not of waiting behind the scenes and hoping that change will come naturally. She makes change happen, no matter the consequences to her. I admire her tenacity and how she is not afraid to step on peoples toes if it is needed for the greater good. She may be tough, but she is very caring and she loves the underdog.

Warden is back and as sexy as ever. He is a man of few words but the words he does say, they certainly pack a punch. He is a character that is ever in the shadows. He is not the best guy around, like Mal from The Grisha Trilogy, but he is not the worst man ever, like he-who-shall-not-be-named from Red Queen. He is unapologetic about his faults, which I immensely adore. He is very similar to Warner from the Shatter Me trilogy in this regard. I absolutely despise characters who apologize for being who they truly are inside, no matter how dark.

There is no one in this book who has a pure heart. Every character has some darkness in their heart but that does not mean they are unlikable. Most of them, like Nick and Eliza, are good people. But then there are people like Nashira who readers would like to see die a violent death. The world building is grander in this installment, but it was really nice to have The Bone Season’s initial world building. The writing is absolutely gorgeous and intense. It definitely takes a couple of sittings to finish this one!

After that cliffhanger ending, I can’t wait to get my hands on book 3, untitled as of yet. Have you started The Bone Season yet? What did you guys think?

Favorite Swoon-worthy Quote: I smoothed my hands over his shoulders, up the slope of his neck, and at last, when my heart was pounding, his mouth took hold of mine. In the darkness, I was nothing but feeling. Fingers pushing through my hair, climbing up the column of my spine. I pulled him closer, draping one arm around his neck, winding my fingers into rough-spun hair. He tasted of red wine and something else, something earthen and rich and faintly amaroidal.
