Ten Books I Thought I Would Like More/Less than I Did
Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created and
hosted by The Broke and
the Bookish. For more information and a list of past
and future topics, go here.
Books I Thought I Would Like LESS than I Did:
1.
Shatter Me series by: Tahereh Mafi – My
suitemate begged me to read this one after months of protesting, but I just
knew it would fall flat to my favorite dystopian series, Divergent. To my utter
surprise, it didn’t, and they are now tied for my favorite. I mean, it’s got
Warner. <3 him!
2.
Reasons I Fell for the Funny Fat Friend by: Becca Ann – I bought this on a whim just because the story sounded cute. But I
ended up totally loving this one. The male MC is so funny and sweet, and it was
the cutest romance.
3.
Perfect Chemistry series by: Simone Elkles –
This was another series I was persuaded to read, this time by my sister, and I
was so glad that I did. Each story is so fabulous and full of swoony moments.
4.
Darkest Powers series by: Kelley Armstrong –
When I picked up the first book in the series, I was hooked. They just kept
getting better from there. It has an unlikely hero, whom I’ve grown to adore
completely. It still remains one of my favorite series.
5.
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by: Ransom Riggs – I read this book, mostly out of curiosity because of the creepy
as mess pictures in it, but I really loved it. If you haven’t read this one
yet, I’d recommend reading it at home during the day with company. Definitely
spooky.
Books I Thought I Would Like MORE than I Did:
1.
The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by: Jennifer E. Smith – Gosh what is wrong with me?! Everyone I’ve seen
has adored this book, and yeah I thought it was cute, it just didn’t make my
favorites shelf. I was sad. :(
2.
The Hunger Games series by: Susanne Collins –
Don’t hit me! I think this is a great series, it is just that after hearing
everybody rave about this book for so long, I was slightly disappointed
by it.
3.
Unearthly series by: Cynthia Hand – I think
Hand’s writing is gorgeous, but after the first book, which I devoured, I was
not as impressed with the last two. I read them mostly because I wanted to see
who Clara ended up with.
4.
For Darkness Shows the Stars by: Diana Peterfreund – Again, her writing was beautiful, and I thought the premise was
super amazing, but the romance was not as enticing to me, especially when the
hero spent the first ¾ of the book being a jerk.
5.
Angelfire by: Courtney Allison Moulton – Althought
I can’t tell you what, this book just reminded me of something else, and I totally
wasn’t engaged at all. I do like Will though, and I will finish the series. I’ve
heard they are wonderful, so I have high hopes.
What books did you think you would like more or less than you did? Comment and let me know!
I am so, so, so with you on the Hunger Games. It was entertaining, but I just wasn't all that impressed.
ReplyDeleteReasons I Fell for the Funny Fat Friend sounds so adorable, I know I'll be reading that this year. The Darkest Powers series was so much for to read, it's one of my favourite paranormals and I was addicted to it as well. I have the Unearthly series on my TBR but it is a little discoraging to hear the other books not being as good as the first. Oh well I'm just going to have to read it to find out.

I had the same feelings about For Darkness Shows the Stars. I couldn't stand most of the characters and that dress on the cover has no reason for being there. Shatter Me pleasantly surprised me as well! I expected to like it, but now it's one of my favorite series out there.
ReplyDeleteFor Darkness Shows the Stars was on my list too. I think it's been one of those books that people expect a lot out of and it just doesn't deliver. So upsetting.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with shatter me! And you're the first person who I haven't seen rave about For the darkness I still haven't read it though

I really liked Perfect Chemistry, too! I got Statistical Probability on my list too, but it was on the other side of the list :)) I really liked Hunger Games and Catching Fire, but Mockingjay was just, ugh.. I don't know the word. :)) Just, I didn't like it :))

Check This Out! :)
I haven't read Shatter Me but have heard many great things about it. I think it's safe to say I should probably check it out soon, if only to see what all this Warner talk is about. Oh, and I was unfortunately disappointed by Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. It was alright, I was just bored and have no desire to read the sequel when it's released.

LOVED Shatter Me! Glad you did too!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to look into Reasons I Fell for the Funny Fat Friend right after I leave a comment here. I am totally intrigued :)
ReplyDeleteAs for the Unearthly series. I liked the first one, but really didn't care for Hallowed at all. I haven't read Boundless, and honestly, I'm not sure I will. But I totally want to know who Clara ends up with (it better be Tucker!)
Perfect Chemistry made my list too, but more of a book I thought I would like more. I liked PC just didn't love it. I haven't read any of Elkeles other books, but I should.
Gosh I love Divergent, so i shall have to move Shatter Me to the top of my TBR pile. Oh, haven't heard of Becca Ann, I shall have to investigate! Yep, Simone Elkeles is very good with the swoon! If you like her you should give 'Pushing the Limits' a try - so good and the authors are rep-ed by the same agency I think. Don't worry you're not the only person who regretted buying 'The Statistical Probability of Love At First Sight'. :-)
ReplyDeleteYES! Love the Darkest Powers trilogy so much! Happy Reading!
ReplyDeleteMy Top Ten!
I still haven't read Unearthly, but don't you hate it when you loved the first book in the series and the rest were meh?! That's how I felt about Matched. I loved book one and two, but wasn't impressed with Reached at all. Oh well! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for all of the new ideas! A ton of these in the earlier half sounded amazing, especially the Shatter Me books.
